*1. explanation

First off, I hope you find some sort of joy in these files.

This is my first attempt at hacking a rom and translating it. The result is this mostly English translation of the SNES Casper originally released in Japan in 1997 based on the movie "Casper" released two years prior. Now, 15 years later, it can finally be enjoyed by Western audiences! Sadly, I could only insert the main dialogue, so some minor scenes remain in Japanese. I will explain in more detail in "section 2. known issues." I've decided it is impossible for me to complete a 100% translation hack, so I have abandoned the project so someday someone with more talent can finish it the rest of the way.

*2. known issues
	2a. my ineptitudes
The dialogue portion of the script should be 100% done, however...
-The introduction after pressing "new game" has compressed text or something.
-Short "cutscenes" (Screen is black, a single photorealistic image is centered on screen, and text fades in/out below photo) use a sprite-based font that I will never be able to understand. Besides the one that says "Stand on star and press X to switch chars" I feel they are of little importance anyhow.
-I played through once, made some corrections to the script, and reinserted. But I could have broken something or introduced a million bugs in doing so. If that is the case, all I can say is: Sorry :<
	2b. the game is buggy
There are some bugs in the game and awkwardness as well. I have confirmed the following oddities to be present in the original game, so any attempts to improve or correct them are probably outside the scope of this translation hack.
-Upon reaching the second floor for the first time, there is dialogue between Kat and Carrigan. Part of the dialogue is repeated 2x in a row. This "feature" is also in the original.
-Kat and Casper are separated at one point, but certain dialogue can be triggered that contain conversations between Casper and Kat, despite one member being absent.
-Since the order of exploring the manor is fairly open-ended, some parts of dialogue seem out of order, but the game is just buggy.
-Heading to certain places will trigger "events" in which Kat moves out of your control. If you are Kat when the event happens, she walks somewhere and the event resolves peacefully. BUT if you trigger these events with Casper, Kat tries to walk around wherever she is standing on the star, and time freezes, and most buttons stop responding... It isn't pretty. My only advice is to save often, and be careful as Casper.
-While Casper and Kat are separated, it is impossible to save at a save machine.

*3. script notes
-There are a few lines I translated awkwardly because I am terrible. They are noted in the script with a comment that says "awkward"
-I wasn't confident in my translation of a few lines, those are tagged with "translation help"
-The font I'm using is 16pt Letter Gothic Std , but I'm not necessarily married to it.
-I mentioned this above as well, but sometimes dialogue seems really out of place, or repeats confusingly. This behavior is in the original.

*4. gameplay notes
-I beat this game in a few hours, but they were a stressful and tense few hours.
-Regarding the ending, my final gem score was ~180 out of a possible ~300, and I got a bad ending :/ so there are confirmed multiple endings. And Carrigan said I was "too late" I don't know if she was being literal, but perhaps time to completion matters?
-Many events only trigger in a certain sequence. You can check an area, go talk to someone, and check the area again, and there will be new doors and items available. So if you are stuck, try visiting old areas. New sections of old floors become available later, too.
-My advice is to search everywhere until you find a Map Radar, an Item Radar, and a Stair Radar. By using the map(pressing L or R) you can see rooms you have visited and their connections to other rooms (only for doors you have gone through) (Moving as Casper will update this map). The item radar shows you where story-related notes are, and where keys are (probably).
-This game definitely isn't worth getting frustrated over, so if you are stuck or lost, just take it easy :) smile :) play a better game for a while, and then go back to Casper.
-Keep the "fastforward" key mapped somewhere nearby. It helps a lot, especially when you are lost and wandering entire floors over and over.
